Players Championship 17 is unfortunately over for all Dutch people. Michael van Gerwen looked like he was on his way to a spot in the last 4, only he threw a 5-2 lead into the bin. Gerwyn Price therefore still took the victory. The tournament is also over for Raymond van Barneveld.
Van Gerwen threw an average of 109.06, but still had to bow to Price. The world champion made a sensational comeback and won 6-5. Mighty Mike is therefore still waiting for his 1st title of 2021.
Great day Barney
Van Barneveld will look back on the day with a good feeling. The Dutchman won in the 1st round 6-1 and an average of 117 against Justin Pipe. Victories over Devon Petersen (6-4), Jamie Hughes (6-2) and Chris Dobey (6-3) followed, after which the adventure for the 5-time world champion was over. He lost 6-2 to Stephen Bunting in the quarterfinals.

It is important for Van Barneveld that he performs well in Super Series 5. Only then will he have a chance of a spot at the World Matchplay, which will be held in Winter Gardens (Blackpool) from 17 to 25 July. The top 16 in the world and the 16 best players of the cleaned up PDC ProTour Order of Merit qualify for this.
