Elise Mertens (WTA 16) will not play at Wimbledon on Monday. Due to the rain, the schedule on the first day of the grand slam tournament was immediately delayed.
The duel of the Belgian number 1 against the British wildcard Harriet Dart (WTA 142) was scheduled as the fourth and last game on (outdoor) court 18. Mertens will eventually only make her appearance on Tuesday.
The first matches on the grass in London were due to start at 11am local time (12am in Belgium) but the rain was a bummer, as is often the case at Wimbledon. At 4.30 pm Belgian time, no ball has yet been hit on the outdoor courts. Monday afternoon there was tennis on the show courts. After all, they have a roof.
