After Simen Jukleröd and Mujaid Sadick, KRC Genk has received its third reinforcement for the A-team. After successfully completing medical tests, Ajax player Carel Eiting signed a contract until 2025.
This 23-year-old left-footed midfielder was a Dutch youth international from the U15 to the U21. He also won the double with Ajax and played in the Champions League and the Europa League. Eiting is an extension of the coach on the field, he is used to drawing the lines. He can play centrally and from the wing, supported by a deep striker. He should be seen as a reinforcement in breadth in a season that is announced as tough by European football.
Last season he was loaned out to the English second division team Huddersfield Town. There he played 23 games. His balance: three goals and three assists. A knee injury put an end to that boom at the beginning of 2021. He only resurfaced towards the end of the season.
Coach Gery Vink had Eiting under his wing at the U17 and U19 of Ajax and therefore knows his qualities through and through. “A very interesting player”, he calls it. “Technically he is very gifted, he has a velvet left. He may miss some starting speed, but he knows how to camouflage that excellently by making choices very quickly. He is brilliant in that area, he can manage a team.”
The question is whether Eiting will also come into its own in the rigid Jupiler League. “With you, most clubs play a bit more conservative, more compact. Well, then you need creativity to break the lock and he has it. You can actually compare him to Daley Blind. He is a smart boy, he was a good student and he is pleasant to deal with. You can talk very well with him about football. Finally, he also has leadership abilities. In short, someone with a lot of potential. A very useful pawn for John (van den Brom).”
