Julie Biesmans recently announced her retirement and is therefore no longer in the selection, which consists of familiar names.

In the first edition of the Nations League for women, the Flames are classified in group 1 of the A division with, in addition to the Netherlands and Scotland, also European champion England. The Belgians will play four more matches at the end of October and the beginning of December.

The concept of the Nations League for women is similar to that of men’s football. 51 countries were divided into three leagues based on their position in the world rankings: Division A and B with 16 countries and Division C with 19 countries. The four group winners in Division A will compete for the Nations League title in February 2024.

The new Nations League also affects the qualifications for the 2025 European Championship (and subsequently the 2027 World Cup). The qualifications, which start in the spring of 2024, will take place according to the same system and course as the Nations League (with a division into three divisions). The results of the Nations League determine in which division a country plays.
