Vertimmerd Genk does not have to make an impression and qualifies for the eighth finals with a big win against Visé

As expected, KRC Genk qualified relatively easily for the eighth finals of the Belgian Cup in Visé (0-4). Wouter Vrancken allowed many substitutes from recent months to gain match rhythm, Sor, Ouattara, Zeqiri and Bonsu Baah found their way to goal.

As expected, Wouter Vrancken gave most of his strongmen a rest. Heynen, Cuesta, Munoz and Paintsil were not even on the score sheet, in addition to goalkeeper Vandevoordt, Arteaga, Hrosovsky, El Khannouss, Fadera, Bonsu Baah and Zeqiri were also on the bench.

The experienced home coach José Riga left five of the six young Jamaicans out of his starting eleven, in which only the name of the young Ukrainian Buchukov (last year at Seraing) rang a bell.

Warning from Karraoui

On paper, there had to be a huge gap between the vice champion and the red lantern from the first national team, who awaited the visitors in a 5-4-1 hedgehog position. Just like last Sunday in Kortrijk, Genk was forced to look for holes in the home defense like a handball team.

On the soaked artificial grass we had to find the right ball speed. And watch out for nonchalance. Because a misunderstanding with so many people in front of the ball could easily lead to a dangerous counter. In this way, on the fifteen minute mark, the fast Karraoui was allowed to storm towards Van Crombrugge’s goal from his own half. However, the Visé striker decided too quickly for a weak shot.

Sor opens the scoring

The first real chance for KRC Genk ended up in the net. Thanks to the subtle assist from Oyen, who guided the sprinting Sor perfectly through the heart of the Liège defense. The Genk attacker was initially stranded on the overrun Cremer, but was able to kick in the rebound himself with his left: 0-1.

The halftime score was immediately on the board. A sloppy Genk, which clearly lacked automatisms, was stuck on a few shots from Ait El Hadj, which zoomed over, and two attempts from Arokodare, which were neutralized by a strong goalkeeper Cremer. The visitors were not even allowed to grumble with that 0-1, because a few surprising counters via Karraoui – always him – could have put the game straight. Van Crombrugge even needed a great save to maintain the smallest lead.

Nice goal from Ouattara

A shocked Genk, which had started to increase the pressure in the closing stages of the first half, resolutely looked for a second goal after the break. Successfully. After just five minutes, Ouattara freed himself to chase the ball unstoppably into the corner from almost twenty meters: 0-2.

The wonderful goal took away the last bit of tension, the commotion had to come from unnecessary anti-Walloon chants from the Genk section, which caused ref De Keyzer to briefly stop the match.

Oyen bedient ook Zeqiri

Fortunately, everyone quickly regained their sanity and could focus on some good attacks. Van Crombrugge had to reduce his angle appropriately when Errahmouni broke through, but it was mainly Cremer’s goal that was attacked.

The strong home goalkeeper knew what to do with Sor’s slider and substitute Zeqiri’s header, but had to bow his head a third time ten minutes before the end. Just like with the 0-1, Oyen put a teammate alone in front of goal, Zeqiri opportunistically pushed the ball in: 0-3.

A tired home team bowed its head and accepted a fourth goal in injury time from an eager substitute Bonsu Baah (0-4).
