Fernando Munoz, national coach of the Belgian volleyball men, has selected 15 Red Dragons for the Final Four of the European Golden League. It will take place behind closed doors this weekend at Sportcampus Lange Munte in Kortrijk. The Belgians will play their semifinal against Ukraine on Saturday at 8 pm.
From the 15-strong selection, one more player is dropped. On Friday, Munoz will announce the final selection of fourteen players.
The teams participating in the Final Four are the three group winners from the group stage and the organizing country. This means that in addition to Belgium as organizer, Estonia, Ukraine and Turkey are also trying to qualify for the final on Sunday. The semifinals will take place on Saturday. The first semi-final between Estonia and Turkey will be played at 5 pm. The Red Dragons will play the second semifinal against Ukraine at 8 p.m.
“The semi-finals and the final will be competitions on the cutting edge anyway, regardless of who our opponents are,” said Munoz. “To get the gold medal, we have to beat two of these teams and the team will have to give it all to make it happen. After losing in 2019 at the European Championship against Ukraine, the team wants revenge.”
At the beginning of this month, the Red Dragons finished in second place in their group behind Estonia.
