There was no sign of great euphoria with national coach Frank de Boer. He will cheer inside after all the criticism he has received. The smashing 3-2 win made up for a lot. “I’ve seen a pretty good Dutch team, except for those 2 goals against,” he calmly responded to the NOS.
De Boer knows the principle: “There is always the danger that if you take the lead, you give it away,” he said. “We became careless and had some difficulties with a conversion from Ukraine. These are good learning moments, it could have been expensive.”
Audience
The national coach was very happy with the audience. “It’s nice to see so many cheering fans. That gives energy.”
And those fans will be there again on Thursday when the Dutch national team plays against Austria. “We want to dominate for 90 minutes and we still have to do that. It’s always nice to start with a win. The first step has been taken towards the next phase. We don’t get anything for free and have to be back against Austria.”
