Morocco’s U23 team will participate in the Olympic Games in Paris next year. And that also has a strong Belgian touch.

On Tuesday evening, Morocco won the semi-finals of the CANU23, the African qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games. It won on penalties against Mali after a 2-2 in regulation time.

The opening goal came from RWDM player Zakaria El Ouahdi on an assist from Ismael Saibari (see video below). Both players have dual nationality and come from Antwerp. Bilal El Khannouss from Genk, Oussama El Azzouzi from Union and Mehdi Boukamir from Charleroi were also in the starting line-up. With Issame Charaï, there was also an Antwerp national coach in front of the dug-out.

Morocco will face Egypt in the final. Both countries are already certain of the Olympic Games.
