The Yellow Tigers recorded a third consecutive victory in the Nations League volleyball against South Korea on Wednesday. In the Italian Rimini, the Belgian women came out on top with 3-2. The set positions were 23-25, 25-23, 25-16, 19-25 and 15-12.
The Yellow Tigers thus achieve three consecutive victories in Nations League for the first time.
Last week, the Tigers lost their first three games in the Nations League against the Netherlands (0-3), Russia (2-3) and Germany (0-3). On Monday, the players of national coach Gert Vande Broek recorded their first win against the Dominican Republic (3-2). On Tuesday they won with the same numbers against Poland. Belgium is currently ninth in the standings with seven points.
The Yellow Tigers will face China on Sunday. The top four after the group stage will advance to the final round.
Last year, the Nations League was canceled due to the corona pandemic. This year’s tournament will take place in a bubble in Rimini, Italy.
In the Nations League, the Belgian women are one of the “challenger teams”, just like Poland, Canada and the Dominican Republic. They are therefore not guaranteed to participate. But in this edition there is exceptionally no relegation, so the Yellow Tigers will certainly be there in 2022. In 2018, Belgium finished thirteenth in the first edition, a year later they missed the final round in seventh, which was then finished with six.
After the Nations League, the European Championships for the Yellow Tigers will follow next summer (18 August-4 September).
