Kevin De Bruyne (29) is one of six nominees for the Premier League Player of the Year title from the English players’ union. The PFA announced the shortlist on Wednesday.
The Manchester City playmaker, who was named PFA Player of the Year last year, will face competition from three teammates: Phil Foden, who is also a contender for the Young Player of the Year title, Ilkay Gundogan and Ruben Dias. They helped Manchester City to the title and the League Cup last season. On Saturday, City lost the Champions League final 1-0 to Chelsea. Due to an obstruction foul by Antonio Rüdiger, De Bruyne suffered a broken nose and a fracture in the left eye socket on the hour, forcing him to leave the field groggy and disillusioned.
The other two nominees are Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) and Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur). The winner will be announced on Sunday.
Ruben Dias was named Player of the Year by the English press last month. The Portuguese defender beat Harry Kane and Kevin De Bruyne.
