The Disciplinary Committee for Professional Football did not impose any additional punishment on Christopher Bonsu Baah of KRC Genk on Wednesday morning for his red card against Westerlo. The attacker hit an opponent in the face during a duel.

The wing attacker was sent off the field by referee Wesli De Cremer in extra time of the first half against Westerlo on Sunday. De Cremer wrote in his report that after a pulling error by opponent Thomas Van den Keybus, Bonsu Baah “armed himself and started a striking movement backwards, towards the face of the opponent” and found an exclusion necessary.

However, the day after the match, De Cremer testified at the Professional Referee Department, after reviewing the images. He changed his opinion and considered a red card exaggerated. A yellow card, which would have been Bonsu Baah’s second in the match, was more appropriate according to the referee.

Striking, because in the meantime the Federal Public Prosecution Service had already sent out its suspension proposal on Monday. Because De Cremer changed his position, the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office did not request any further suspension at the hearing on Tuesday, and the Committee followed suit. Bonsu Baah is therefore eligible to play for Sunday’s match at AA Gent.
