Basketball competition with Belgian and Dutch clubs will be called BNXT League: “Reference to the future”

Basketbalcompetitie met Belgische en Nederlands clubs zal BNXT League heten: “Referentie aan de toekomst”

The BNXT League will be the official name for the new Belgian-Dutch basketball competition. That was announced in Eindhoven on Thursday.

In recent months, fans have been able to submit their proposal for the name of a cross-border competition. The choice ultimately fell on BNXT League from more than 1,100 submissions.

“The word BNXT, which looks extra young because of the lack of consonants, consists of the letters B (elgië) and N (ederland) and clearly contains the word ‘next’,” it says in a statement. “With this BNXT refers to the future and thus makes an activating appeal to a team, player, partner, sponsor, champion, basketball fan and sports fan to get the best out of themselves and forge a new, colorful basketball community, where cooperation and growth are paramount . In short: a competition that will be innovative and innovative, colorful and exciting, spectacular and a real ‘way of life’, in a sport that never stops. ”

Wim Van de Keere, general manager of the Belgian Pro Basketball League, thinks that the new competition will bring a lot of benefits to basketball in the Low Countries.

“From September we will start with this new and ambitious project. This is the result of the hard work of many people from the leagues, clubs and associations over the past year, in which the pandemic presented an additional challenge. Since January we have been working with an interim board of 4 people from both leagues, with the task of concretizing the preparatory work of 6 working groups that were active from April to November. Mission accomplished in terms of name and brand. In the coming weeks, we will provide even more clarification in order to market the BNXT brand as strongly as possible.
