Annemiek van Vleuten became 3rd in Pamplona in the Navarra Women’s Elite Classics. Arlenis Sierra from Cuba won the 1-day race, Ruth Winder (United States) was 2nd. Van Vleuten won the Vuelta Navarra on Thursday.
Last year, Van Vleuten was the best in Pamplona, ahead of the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini. She then also won Emakumeen Nafarroako Klasikoa. The 2 one-day races form a diptych.
Tour of Valencia
Last week, Van Vleuten won the Tour of Valencia, after which she also won the one-day race Vuelta Navarra on Thursday. The Movistar rider defeated fellow countryman Vollering (SD Worx) in one sprint-for-two. For Van Vleuten, it was her fifth victory of the season.
Olympics
The Olympic selection for the women was announced on Tuesday. Van Vleuten and Vollering were both selected, as were Anna van der Breggen and Marianne Vos.
