We have already caught the first dropout of the Giro d’Italia. The unlucky person is Krists Neilands, rider of Israel Start-Up Nation. The 26-year-old Let came through the time trial unscathed, but then things went awfully wrong for him. Neilands fell on his way to the hotel, breaking his collarbone.
Neilands, who finished 105th in the time trial won by Filippo Ganna, was operated on Saturday evening in a hospital in Turin. Due to the cancellation of the Let, we will continue on Sunday with 183 riders.
Unfortunately, we also have bad news?
On his way back to the hotel, @Neilands_K crashed and was taken to hospital where a scan confirmed a fracture on his right collarbone. He will need surgery and therefore won’t take the start of stage 2 on Sunday. Speedy recovery, Krists!
