Surprising twist: Spanish players reach an agreement with the football association after “mandatory” selection

An agreement has been reached between the Spanish Football Federation and the players of the national team. This is reported by the Spanish government. Most players who were on strike until recently have rejoined the selection.

According to State Secretary for Sports Victor Francos, a number of agreements will be drawn up and signed on Thursday. He says that only two of the 23 players called up have indicated that they want to leave.

The new Spanish national coach Montse Tomé had on Monday called up fifteen of the 23 players who gave Spain the women’s football world title this summer but who no longer want to play for La Roja, for the upcoming Nations League matches.

A large number of them then announced that they would ignore the notice until more drastic changes had been implemented within the RFEF. The players had gone on strike after the outbreak of the kissing affair surrounding the now departed association president Luis Rubiales.

Spain will face Sweden in the Nations League on Friday and will play Switzerland next Tuesday. Both competitions also count towards the qualifications for the Paris Olympic Games.
