The 2023-2024 season of the Jupiler Pro League will not be spared from a significant number of coach changes. From the dismissal of Vincent Euvrard to the recent appointment of Bruno Irles. In total, our football clubs have said goodbye to the coach with whom they started their season no fewer than nine times. An overview.

It all started just four days before the kick-off of the new season, when PhD student RWDM decided to throw coach Vincent Euvrard at the door. Brazilian Claudio Caçapa was quickly appointed as his replacement, assisted by compatriot Anderson Luiz dos Santos Valiñas and Igor de Camargo, who has a history with the Brussels residents.

Striking off the field

The tumultuous period continued when red lantern KV Kortrijk dismissed head coach Edward Still after a disappointing start to the season (2 out of 24). Joseph Akpala temporarily took over before Glen De Boeck took over. De Boeck also had to resign after 2 months. Jokes about his jackets, criticism of a lack of self-reflection and even rumors about soup were all discussed during his time with the Kerels. Icelander Freyr Alexandersson now has the tough task of keeping the latter in the position in 1A.

Clubs such as Oud-Heverlee Leuven and KV Mechelen were also not immune to change. After the dismissal of Marc Brys and the departure of Steven Defour respectively, Oscar Garcia and Besnik Hasi were appointed as their successors.

But the coaching carousel also continued in the return round of the regular competition, with Westerlo firing coach Jonas De Roeck after only two wins in sixteen games. Rik De Mil switched from assistant coach at Club Brugge to head coach at Westerlo.

Even Standard Liège, a top club with a rich history, was not spared from the unrest. After a series of disappointing results, Carl Hoefkens was pushed aside in favor of Ivan Leko. The Croat achieved his first victory at home against OHL last weekend. An important victory that pushes the Rouches further away from relegation.

The most recent development came from PhD student RWDM, where Claudio Caçapa and his assistants were fired after a heavy home defeat against Antwerp. Frenchman Bruno Irles was quickly appointed as their successor, with a contract until the end of the season.

With only five matchdays before the end of the regular competition, many teams in the lower regions of the rankings have already changed coaches. Only Sporting Charleroi (Felice Mazzù) and KAS Eupen (Florian Kohfeldt) have not yet said goodbye to their trainer. The relegation candidates are in thirteenth and fifteenth place respectively in the rankings. Wondering if they will finish their season with their current coach.
