The Italian volleyball club Perugia has fired coach Vital Heynen (51). The top club announced this on Thursday.
Perugia lost the first final match in the Italian league 1-3 to Civitanova on Wednesday. That turned out to be enough for the club board to send Heynen out of the lane.
Heynen was appointed coach of Perugia in the summer of 2019. The Limburger previously coached Maaseik, the Turkish Ankara, the Polish Bydgoszcz, the French Tours and the German Friedrichshafen.
Since 2018, Heynen has also coached the Polish national team, the reigning world champion. He can now fully concentrate on preparing the Poles for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Heynen already had the German and Belgian national teams under his wing.
