Van Gerwen beats De Sousa at the UK Open and goes to the quarter finals

Michael van Gerwen is in the quarter finals of the UK Open. In the last game of Saturday evening, he beat Jose de Sousa 10-9. Mighty Mike won the tournament last year. He previously won the UK Open in 2015 and 2016.

The Dutchman took a 4-2 lead, but saw the Spaniard come back to 4-4. The men then both took a leg (5-5), after which Van Gerwen ran out again: 8-5. The Sousa then came back all the way! The Spaniard just made it 8-8. Van Gerwen took another leg, but the Spaniard also: 9-9. So there had to be a decisive leg, but the Dutchman won it. 10-9!

Van Gerwen previously defeated Scott Mitchell and Mensur Suljovic (and now De Sousa) en route to the quarterfinals of the UK Open.

The other quarter-finalists are Gerwyn Price, James Wade, Simon Whitlock, Krzysztof Ratajski, Devon Petersen, Dave Chisnall and Luke Humphries.
