Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen took their fifth ATP doubles title on Sunday. The Belgians, who together formed the first seed, won the doubles final of the Singapore ATP tournament (hard / $ 300,000). In the final battle they settled after one hour and five minutes of tennis in two sets (6-2 and 6-3) with the Australians Matthew Ebden and John-Patrick Smith, who were placed fourth.
It is Gillé (30) and Vliegen (27), 41st and 37th respectively in the ATP double ranking, their fifth ATP doubles title together. In 2019 they triumphed in Zhuhai, Gstaad and Bastad. Last year, the Limburg tandem in Nur-Sultan captured the overall victory. They lost the final battle in Kitzbühel in 2019.
At the Australian Open, Gillé and Vliegen were eliminated in the first round earlier this month. Their best result in a grand slam tournament is a place in the quarter-finals of the US Open last year.
